Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind, 1874-1883 This is a project to study the lives of the early students of the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind, which opened in Colorado Springs in 1874 under the name "Colorado Institute for the Education of Mutes." I have long been interested in the school because my father attended there (William Monk, b. 1919, d. 1994, blind student 1926-1939). This research will highlight many of Colorado's early pioneer families, and should provide information relating to Colorado's early deaf history. I've created these Web pages, and submitted the names to WorldConnect, in hopes of contacting other researchers who may have information about these students and their families. Comments and additional information appreciated - E-mail Birdie Holsclaw or visit home page. Birdie Monk Holsclaw
